Especially familiar with Karakoram. "I believe that women’s roped parties can also be successful on eight-thousanders, and this is what I proved with Mojca Švajger in 2007 with our ascent to the Broad Peak fore-summit (8,035m; Karakoram). When I am in the mountains, I treasure and respect the natural mountain environment and the mountain ethics. This defines the most genuine type of ascent and respectable attitude towards all residents of mountain areas, their lifestyle, tradition, and culture. My research work thus combines two great loves of my life - mountains and geography".
Mojca Švajger (33) – alpine climber since 2001, member of the Tržič Alpine Climbing Section, participated in four expeditions, crossed the magic limit of 8,000m on Broad Peak in 2007 with Irena Mrak. "I dedicate my free time to mountains and preparations for expeditions. I prefer climbing in winter conditions, so I plan to spend the summer of 2009 in Karakoram. Irena and I are planning to conquer the 7,788m high Rakaposhi mountain in true alpine style, with no additional oxygen and without the help of porters. On all my expeditions I nurture the environment, attitude towards people and their culture. On our expeditions Irena and I have tested the “recipe” of environmentally friendly expeditions. In base camps, we use ecological cleaning and personal hygiene products, and generate electric energy through solar cells, thus leaving the mountain as intact as possible. This is the only acceptable way and is used by the majority of expeditions to high mountain areas throughout the world."
