Nogometaša sta se zapletla v 25. minuti finalnega obračuna v Kijevu, Ramos pa naj bi namerno zajel roko egipčanskega napadalca in pri tem vztrajal tudi po tem, ko sta oba pristala na tleh. Salah je kljub poškodbi poskušal nadaljevati, a so bile bolečine prehude.
Na družbenih omrežjih se je vnela burna razprava, ali je bila poteza branilca Reala namerna. Liverpool je po izgubi prvega strelca deloval precej nebogljeno, a na koncu izgubil zaradi izredne dnevne forme Garetha Bala in nepojmljivih napak vratarja Lorisa Kariusa.
Uporabniki družbenih omežij so Ramosu zamerili, ker se je medtem, ko je objokani Salah zapuščal zelenico, zadovoljno smehljal in kramljal s sodnikom.
